Consolidation

Before the beginning of any treatment, dry, mechanical or water soluble, the materials around, over, under or on the area to be worked, must be protected, so that any pigment or suspended materials will suffer damage.

The pigment consolidation is the method of protecting the original pigment of the art piece to make sure it does not change during the procedure. The technique can diverge depending in the style of art and the materials used.
