In the process of mending, fissures, tears, fold, wrinkles, loss of paper material support, that the object might have gone through, sometimes due to weathering and changes, the situations the piece has gone throughout the years even centuries, are attended.
If there are wholes in the artwork and a new piece of material has to be inserted to cover that space, a piece of that material has to be created and inserted to cover the hole.
This step is to create this material to be “mended” in to fill the space where there is no material. Insert is when you "insert" the new material that has been mended to fill the empty space.
