Wash is one of the first processes used to eliminate the contamination and impurities that is water soluble. This technique doesn't affect the pigment of the paper sustained material.
This is the starting point by which all the chemical processes can be applied accordingly as suggested by the proposed treatment at the iniciation of the restoration study.
The acidity in the artwork is neutralized through the procedure of wash cleaning. In this stage of the treatment, a certain percent of stain removal can also be achieved in some cases.
This immersion procedure can bleach the stains and spots and eliminate them totally.
